Owners of top supercars from the world

Sports car enthusiasts watched as Lamborghinis, Porches, Ferraris and Aston Martins, among other cars, touched speeds of up to 200mph.

Two Scottish charities divided the money collected from 48 people who bought the £250-a-head tickets.

Overall, the event raised an estimated £15,000 for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow and Edinburgh's St Columba's Hospice.

Edinburgh Airport's secondary runway held the event called Race the Runway and cars, with a total value of vehicles worth more than £3 million showing up.

In a series of time trial and speed events, cars were pushed to their limits over the 1.5km route.

A Rolls Royce Phantom, a Ford Mustang GT, a Maserati Gransport, a Nissan Skyline GTR and a Caparo T1 were among the other luxury cars on show at the event.

Edinburgh Airport managing director Gordon Dewar came up with the idea, which is the first of its kind in Scotland, and said he was "absolutely delighted" to be hosting the event.

Mr Dewar, also an ambassador for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, wished both charities "success for the future".
